Evaluation of Unionized Propellant Xenon Atom in a Hall Thruster Plume
نویسندگان
چکیده
Unionized propellant xenon atom in a magnetic layer type Hall thruster plume was diagnosed by optical methods. To estimate the total xenon number density from previously measured meta-stable one, the Bolzmann, the corona and the KCD models were evaluated by emission spectroscopy. The measured xenon spectra show better agreement with the KCD model than the others. Also the electron temperature by a combination of the KCD model with the measured spectra shows good agreement with that from a single probe measurement. As a result of the application of this model, the total number density of xenon was estimated 3.4×10 m at the channel exit and decreased by 1/e at 60 mm from the exit.

Optical Boron Nitride Insulator Erosion Characterization of a 200 W Xenon Hall Thruster
Vacuum ultraviolet emission (137.9 nm) of boron neutrals sputtered from a 200 W xenon Hall thruster boron nitride insulator is evaluated as a diagnostic for real time evaluation of thruster insulator erosion. Three Hall thruster plasma control variables are examined; ion energy (discharge potential), ion flux (propellant flow), and plasma conductivity (magnetic field strength). The boron emissi...
متن کاملTHE EFFECT OF SEGMENTED ANODES ON THE PERFORMANCE AND PLUME OF A HALL THRUSTER By:
Development of alternative propellants for Hall thruster operation is an active area of research. Xenon is the current propellant of choice for Hall thrusters, but can be costly in large thrusters and for extended test periods. Condensible propellants may offer an alternative to xenon, as they will not require costly active pumping to remove from a test facility, and may be less expensive to pu...

متن کاملSingle-String Integration Test Measurements of the NEXT Ion Engine Plume
Measurements were made of a 40 cm ion-thruster plume as part of the single-string-integration-test (SSIT) activity of Phase I of the NASA’s Evolutionary Xenon Thruster (NEXT) project. The NEXT ion engine incorporates design improvements that extend NSTAR power levels and efficiencies. During SSIT, an engineering model (EM2) 40 cm engine was operated using an advanced xenon propellant system in ...
متن کاملPlume Characterization of an Ion-Focusing Hall Thruster
The T-220HT Hall-effect thruster is modified to include in-channel electrodes and additional magnetic coils to study ion focusing. The goal of this work is to decrease energy losses from ion-wall neutralization and plume divergence to increase the thrust-to-power ratio. In this paper, thrust and plume measurements on xenon are presented. The thruster was tested from 125 to 300 V at 9 A discharg...
